MINDFULNESS

one on one mindfulness.JPG

Mindfulness meditation focuses on the present moment with a non-judgmental awareness. The benefits are plentiful including emotional regulation, calmness, healthier relationships and communication, stress management, and enhanced creativity.

Mindfulness is not only meditating on our cushion. It is being present and aware in our relationships, decisions, and our lives overall. It is a way of life.

A Harvard research study found that we are not present about 47% of the time. This means we are not present for almost half of our waking life. Furthermore, they found that the more the mind wanders, the more unhappy we are.

With a life full of distractions, it is no wonder it takes training to focus the mind on the present moment. It is a worthwhile and rewarding journey to be more conscious and aware of your life so you may live it fully.

FAQs

Do I need to be religious to meditate?

The origins of mindfulness come from Buddhism, but mindfulness is practiced everywhere in the world by all religions and by those who do not follow religion. Mindfulness is for absolutely everyone. My training in mindfulness was very secular and I teach it in a very secular and accessible way.

Are there any dangers or negative side effects to meditation?

Meditation is generally harmless and side effect free. One precaution to take is to let me know if you have PTSD or any trauma that is present for you (you do not need to disclose any details). This is important because sometimes sitting silently for long periods of time when having active PTSD can re-traumatize someone. I am trained to spot when this is happening when working together but letting me know beforehand can help me decide what kind of meditations may be more fitting from the beginning. Also, it may be advised to work with a therapist if you are experiencing overwhelm, panic, PTSD, etc.

“I love listening to these meditations and sound bowls. There have been moments when I’ve had a bit of anxiety and Jamie’s soothing voice and meditations have helped me feel so comforted and have mellowed me out during those times. I highly recommend giving these a listen. These are excellent to have on the list for self care. Very calming.”
